Preceden has an experimental new feature to help you generate content for your timeline using artificial intelligence.
How do I access the tool?
Above your timeline, click the AI Suggestions button:
Note that this isn't available to all users just yet; we're rolling it out slowly so we can monitor costs and fix bugs that arise before enabling it for everyone.
How do I use it?
Type in a topic and click Generate Ideas. Preceden will then generate suggestions related to that topic that you can add to your timeline:
Here is the resulting timeline:
A few things to know:
- You can uncheck suggestions to only add certain ones to your timeline.
- You can edit the name and dates directly from this tool, or wait until after you've added them to your timeline
- If you want to change the icon, update the color, add notes, you can do so by editing the events after you've added them to your timeline
- Additionally, if your timeline has multiple layers, you'll be able to select which layer you want the events added to:
Can I use this for project planning timelines?
The tool is currently works best for historical timelines, though we plan to make it work for project planning timelines in the future.
How does it come up with suggestions?
It uses an AI technology called Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (GPT), which you may have heard about recently with the launch of ChatGPT.
GPT was trained using information it found on the internet and so may contain inaccurate data. Also, these GPT technologies sometimes make things up completely, especially if you're searching for an uncommon topic. For this reason, we highly recommend verifying the accuracy of suggestions before you add them to your timeline.
How many events can I add to my timeline?
If you're on Preceden's free plan, you'll be able to add up to 10 events total to your timeline.
For example, if you've already added 6 events yourself, you'll only be able to add 4 suggestions from this tool.
All of our paid plans let you add unlimited events if you want to create larger timelines.
